About Me

About me

I'm Sarah, I live and work on the Yorkshire border providing a mix of remote and in-person counselling. I love reading, watching live music or sporting events and decompress with a variety of creative hobbies in my spare time. I am a housecat by nature, I love staying at home in my autism nest living my best life! I am a qualified counselling psychotherapist with a specialism in neurodivergence (Autism and ADHD). Being autistic myself, I understand the challenges I face in the world and how overwhelming things can become in no time. I also understand how not having the right support can be damaging, I've lived that in my own personal therapy with neurodivergent "affirming" counsellors who really didn't have much of a clue about my lived experience. Having both personal and professional experience with neurodivergence equips me to meet you where you are comfortable and navigate things together in a way that suits you, your life and is beneficial to your most authentic self.

My approach

I understand that not everyone is equipped with the same abilities to communicate, (it's a learnt skill after all!) so I provide the option to work creatively as another avenue to access emotions and navigate your therapeutic journey. I work in a way that suits me which may not be the same way that suits you, this is absolutely fine! I adapt my practice to each individual and have regular check-ins to keep us on the same page and address any issues arising on either side. I believe in a collaborative approach and hope to provide the environment to allow you to thrive and flourish in your life.

I utilise an integrative therapeutic approach which means I can draw from different theoretical insights and tailor your counselling to what suits you best. Being neurodivergent means I've struggled to find counsellors that really understood my frame of reference and by working collaboratively I hope to support you in whatever way feels best for your journey. I hope to provide a warm, non-judgemental, accepting environment where you feel safe enough to explore your problems and empowered to make long-lasting change in your life. I am an advocate for equality regarding disability and have in-depth personal and professional experience regarding Autism and ADHD.

I am a more casual therapist, I like my sessions to be more conversational and free flowing with your needs. I'm not afraid to challenge you where I feel you need it, but I will be your biggest support and celebrate your successes, even if you can't yet. I'm never above finding out more information and admitting where I might need to do some more research in order to support you better. I am invested in each and every client, I wish you the best and I will support you in any way that I can which looks different for every client, but that's the beauty.

A client told me at the end of a session in 2024 "you are aggressively invested in your clients" and I think that sums up my approach the best!
