What To Expect

I offer a free 15 minute consultation call or video chat to allow us to meet and ask any questions you might have about myself and my practice. It's an opportunity to gain some clarity and see if I might be a good fit for your needs. Deciding to have counselling is a big decision and picking a counsellor that's right for you is important which is why I would encourage you to consider what you hope to gain from therapeutic work and how I might be able to assist with that. If this seems intimidating, it can just be an opportunity to see if we are a good fit. Some people like a plan, others struggle with it. I'm happy with either! If you want to chat and see if we are compatible, lets do that!

I use the consultation to explain the way that I work and find out a little about whats brought you to counselling as well as what to expect if we decide to work together. There is no obligation to  proceed with booking sessions after our chat should you decide it's not for you. I sincerely hope you find the right person to support you, even if that is elsewhere.

If you decide to proceed with sessions we will agree on a starting date and time for our first session as well as the method (zoom or in person). We might decide an initial number of sessions (if you wanted a set number) and I will send you out some documents to review. You will receive a counselling contract and counselling agreement that outlines both of our responsibilities and includes the privacy policy documents for your information. If you had any questions about these, you can email me or discuss it in our first session. However, the consent form will need to be returned before our first digital session and upon receipt I will email you the session link for Zoom. I know this bit sounds like a lot, but it's just explaining what you can expect from me and can ease some worry about sessions. I love knowing what to expect so I can take it bit by bit where it feels more manageable. We can go through these documents in person if that helps and every person gets a document with images of the therapy space, the external area around the office and other general information. This is where my autism is helpful because when I had my own therapy, half the anxiety was about what things looked like, how to get there! The questions, the variables!

Part of the first session will be establishing any goals you have and asking questions about what you are hoping to achieve. These will be regularly referred back to and reviewed to assess progress and shift the focus if needed. Things come up you might not expect and being adaptable is better than rigid. I use the word "goals" to make it the most understood but really they are a focus, what do we need to prioritise to support you best.

Fees are £50 per 50-minute session with discounts for block-booking 6 sessions at a time.

Payment is required same day via bank transfer or cash on the day, I can text reminders if you struggle with remembering (ADHDers, you wonderful people, I'm looking at you! Object permanence who?)
